Fifth Grade Cambria Trip Update-
Final camp meeting will be held on Thursday, March 6 in the boardroom at 6:00 PM. ALL CAMP PAPERWORK IS DUE ON THAT DAY AS WELL! Galileo's campers need to be at the school on Monday, 3/10/08 at 5:15 AM for our departure! We expect to return back to Galileo on Friday, 3/14/08 at approximately 6:00 PM (pending traffic conditions). Please contact Mrs. Miller or Mr. White regading any camping questions and/or concerns. The fifth grade students here at Galileo Academy have the opportunity to attend a five day, four night educational camping excursion to Camp Ocean Pines. Camp Ocean Pines is located in Cambria, along California's Central Coast area, halfway between San Luis Obispo and Hearst Castle. During the trip, the students will be able to tour Hearst Castle and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Students will also partake in tide pool exploration activities and visit the Farmer's Market in San Luis Obispo. Students will have the chance to encounter sea lions, elephant seals, and a variety of marine creatures. The cost of this trip is $305.00 per person (adult or child). This fee includes all lodging, meals at the campsite, and admission to all events. Your child may wish to bring along some spending money for the camp store and/or the Farmer's Market. The students will be sharing a cabin and will be supervised by an adult. Adult chaperones that choose to reside in the cabins with the students will pay a discounted price of $152.50. A lottery will be used to determine which interested, accompanying parents will pay this special rate, as it is limited to one adult per nine children. If a parent is selected as a chaperone, the chosen parent will be lodging in a ten person cabin with nine same-gendered students. The only students/children that may attend this trip are those enrolled in fifth grade here at Galileo Academy. NO SIBLINGS ARE PERMITTED.
In order to plan for this exciting trip, a count of those interested in attending will be needed. The tentative dates for the trip are Fundraising efforts will be needed and will begin as soon as possible. Money will be needed for not only the camp and activities, but also for the bus transportation to and from Cambria. Volunteers are needed to form a fundraising committee. We also need two volunteers that are not employed by the Victor Elementary School District to be school treasurers. Last year, some parents opted to simply donate money needed for their children's camp fees. If you are able to do this as well, please feel free. However, no child will be excluded from this trip due to financial reasons. PARENTS MUST PAY IN FULL FOR THEIR TRIP... NO FUNDS RAISED WILL BE ALLOCATED FOR ADULTS.
The school must pay Camp Ocean Pines half of the entire balance by early January. For more imformation, please see or contact Mrs. Miller.
The first Cambria payment of $152.50 per person (students and chaperones) is due on Tuesday, January 9, 2007.
